Sophie » Senior Portraits » New Orleans Bywater
I’m going a little further back in time to share Sophie’s senior portraits from 2020. I can’t really imagine what it must’ve been like for her senior year of high school to be tangled up with school closures and isolation. But upon meeting her, I was instantly inspired by her bright, positive outlook, and her hope for a future in music.
Although her family traveled from Texas for her session in New Orleans, she fit in perfectly in the Bywater, surrounded by all the bright colors, street murals, and semi-tropical vegetation. It’s a neighborhood she knows well, as she grew up spending time with relatives who live and run a business in the neighborhood.
While senior portraits were at one point a fairly big percentage of my clientele back in Oregon, I had only done a handful of senior sessions during my five years in Louisiana. So while I was helping Sophie get comfortable in front of the camera, she probably didn’t realize she was also helping me relax behind the camera. This was one of my first sessions after all the initial 2020 shut-downs; it was exhilarating to be working again, and to share a few hours of conversation with such a friendly family. We didn’t even let a hurricane warning dampen our vibe, and in fact, the moody clouds were a nice added touch. Please enjoy this sample of a full length senior portrait session, and send our best wishes to Sophie!
