Lucas + Chey » Couple’s Session » Downtown New Orleans
This couple chose not one, but two, amazing locations for their couple’s portraits. Lucas and Chey really brought the glam for an indoor session at The Jung Residences, then they chose dressy casual for some fun chasing the streetcars as they rumbled along Canal Street.
Believe it or not, both halves of their session, which took place months apart, were nearly rescheduled due to inclement weather warnings. For the first session, I can honestly say I’ve never been so pleased to be rained out; it forced to use our indoor back-up location, and as you can see, The Jung Residences made a perfect backdrop. The second time around, it was also quite serendipitous that we chose to ignore the warnings of wet weather, and go ahead with the session, because we ended up with beautiful lighting.
Their first session is unique in that nearly the whole session looks stunning on both color and greyscale. Usually, in my opinion, a portrait will be much stronger in one or the other. There are various reasons for this, lighting, contrast, tonal range, and whether or not the color is distracting from the subject matter, to name a few. But this particular session just has a timeless quality, luxurious; I just really love both color and greyscale.
Their second session along Canal Street was a great contrast, and an opportunity to showcase the playful sides of their personalities. I feel it’s important for the photo shoot itself to be a memory, more than just the photos. We strolled along the streetcar lines, they walked hand in hand, picked flowers for each other, and stopped to do a little twirl, all while hugging and laughing the whole time.
