Repeat Clients » Kind Words & Happy Memories » Josh + Sarah
One of the greatest gifts I can receive as a photographer, is when clients continue to choose my services over the span of many years, easily becoming friends more than clients. This week, let’s take a look at another client I’ve had the pleasure of working with numerous times.
I feel fortunate to have been able to witness Josh and Sarah grow together, from their engagement, to marriage, to welcoming their first little one, then welcoming their second. From the beginning, I feel like they had a clear vision of what they wanted for their future life in photographs, which I can really appreciate. Over time, their sessions will flow seamlessly from one season of life to the next, creating a cohesive timeline of wall art for their home, or a visually harmonious progression of photo albums. And of course, all of those memories to cherish from times gone by.
I should note: Both of their family portrait sessions took place after I’d relocated from Portland to New Orleans, so we scheduled their sessions during times I was visiting Oregon for holidays or other photography work. It was a nice reunion of sorts, to see them each time, with a new addition. For the first few years, I visited Oregon annually, and used that opportunity for repeat clients like Josh and Sarah. I wish I had plans to visit again sometime soon, but as of now, y’all will have to come visit me in Mexico.
This is what Josh has to say about their photography experience:
I was first drawn to Dani for her art photography. Her work had drawn regional awards. When my then-fiancé and I were interested in engagement photos, I thought it was worth approaching Dani. She later did our wedding, pregnancy, and later still family photos. Dani has a rare artistic eye. She is very good at directing natural chemistry and capturing the best of her subjects. All of our photos from Dani could serve equally as wall art or in a family album. She is also very accommodating. Many of our shoots have been in locations special to us, and we have scheduled her services since she has moved her business out of state. Our family has grown as we have known Dani, and it has been such a pleasure recollecting each step though Dani’s camera lens. I can’t speak more highly of her work.
We started working together in 2012, for Josh and Sarah’s engagement portraits. This session took place in central Oregon at Smith Rock, a beautiful location, and meaningful to their relationship. It was absolutely worth the drive to central Oregon for the amazing backdrop! Their sweet Australian Shepard made an appearance, and would continue to be a constant throughout their future family portraits.
As a thoughtful couple, Josh and Sarah planned their wedding with their family and friends in mind. It took place at a beautiful Oregon campground in the forest, with cabins and bunks previously used by Boy Scout troops, so everyone could enjoy a whole wedding weekend together. Many elements were handmade, with lots of love. And the food was amazing!
When the two became three (or rather, counting their pup, when the three became four) they opted for a casual, real-life, family session. This included going on an outing to Mt. Tabor and trying to keep up with their son! In my opinion, the most genuine family sessions are free-form like this, documenting the scenes as they unfold, which often involves following the little ones around, to explore and catch their quick little moments. Josh and Sarah had also worked with my friend and fellow photographer Michelle, who captured a shot of them on their back porch, and they wanted to continue to show each progression of their family at the same location.
Then there was one more! I sincerely hope they continue their back porch series over the years!
